Fawn
Rough coat, white spots, black tail
Big eyes, soft ears, wet nose
Spindly legs, almost focused
Doe gave birth under our Oak last night
Arrived singular, about midnight
Silently brought in another life
Next morning, newborn was running
On wobbly legs
Up and down the hill
He ran with speed
Panicked, wary
Gathered momentum
And leapt the fence
