Ode to Our Firefighters
You brave heat and wind and dust and smoke
To preserve homes owned by other folk
Travel great distances to be on the spot
And we haven’t forgot...
Your weeks away from families, loved ones and pets
That’s about as giving as self-sacrificing love gets
“Look! We consider happy those who have endured
You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome ..
That Jehovah is very tender in affection and merciful.”
(James 5:11)
We appreciate all you do, the sacrifices you make
Your attention to detail, the risks you take
May the “Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort”*
Comfort you as you fight the biggest blaze
In all of California’s days.
*(2 Corinthians 1: 3, 4)
